Hight quality NYLON 3D-Printer Filament Material in 2.85mm
Nylon PA12 Filament 2.85 mm – The Industrial Standard
Our PA12 Nylon Filament in 2.85 mm (Polyamide 12) is the premier choice for engineers and professional users. Compared to standard Nylon (PA6), PA12 stands out with significantly lower moisture absorption. This means: It remains printable for longer, foams less, and the printed parts maintain their dimensional stability better, even in humid environments.
Why Nylon PA12 in 2.85 mm Format?
Nylon is naturally a very low-friction and slightly softer material. On printers with 2.85 mm Bowden extruders (such as Ultimaker 2+/3/S5), it feeds excellently because the thicker diameter prevents "buckling" inside the guide tube.
- High Fatigue Resistance: Does not break under repeated bending (ideal for living hinges).
- High Chemical Resistance: Resistant to oils, greases, gasoline, and detergents.
- Self-Lubricating: Low coefficient of friction, perfect for gears and bearings.
- Heat Resistant: Service temperatures above 100 °C possible (depending on load).
- Impact Tough: Absorbs energy without shattering.
Technical Processing Instructions
Nylon PA12 is more demanding than PLA. Important: The material must be absolutely dry before printing (drying in an oven/filament dryer is recommended). Additionally, an adhesion promoter (Magigoo PA or glue stick) on the print bed is mandatory to prevent warping.
Recommended Parameters (Z3D PA12 2.85 mm)
- Hotend Temperature: 250 °C – 270 °C (All-Metal Hotend recommended)
- Print Bed: 90 °C – 110 °C
- Cooling: Fan off (0 %) for maximum layer adhesion
- Chamber: An enclosed printer helps against warping, though PA12 is less critical than ABS.
Applications for 2.85 mm PA12
- Functional gears and plain bearings (runs very quietly).
- Snap-fits and clips (utilizes flexibility).
- Housings for automotive engine bays.
- Prosthetics and orthotics (biocompatible feel and tough).
