PLA-Wood Filament – Properties, Benefits & Applications in 3D Printing

PLA-Wood filament (with 30% wood content) is a decorative 3D printing material that combines the easy printability of PLA with a natural wood appearance and texture. It is ideal for creative projects, model building, and decorative objects.

Print & Material Properties

PLA-Wood prints similarly to regular PLA but requires slightly larger nozzles (≥0.4 mm) and adjusted print speeds to prevent clogs caused by wood particles. Due to the wood fibers, each print may show subtle color variations and grain-like structures, giving every model a unique look.

Optimal Printing Settings for PLA-Wood

  • Print Temperature: 190–220 °C
  • Heated Bed: 0–60 °C (optional depending on printer)
  • Build Chamber: open or closed
  • Cooling Fan: 50–100% for best surface quality
  • Speed: 30–60 mm/s

Tip: For especially smooth surfaces, PLA-Wood can be lightly sanded, stained, or coated after printing. Using a larger nozzle significantly reduces clogging risk.
